SCIENTIFIC REPORT The Finger iridectomy technique: small incision biopsy of anterior segment tumours
نویسندگان
چکیده
Aims: To develop a minimally invasive, maximally effective method to biopsy anterior segment tumours. Methods: A 25 gauge aspiration cutter (vitrector) was used to biopsy anterior segment tumours. The probe was introduced under sodium hyaluronate 1% and through a 1 mm incision. Aspiration (600 mmHg) cutting (300 cpm) was performed to obtain specimens for cytology and histopathology. Results: Diagnostic material was obtained in nine of 10 (90%) cases. Diagnoses included iris naevus, iris stroma, malignant melanoma, melanocytoma, epithelial inclusion cyst, and sarcoid granuloma. All corneal wounds were self sealing. One patient developed a transient postoperative increase in intraocular pressure. Within the follow up of this study, no patients suffered intraocular haemorrhage, infection, cataract or vision loss. Conclusion: The Finger iridectomy technique was a minimally invasive and very effective biopsy technique. Aspiration cutting yielded relatively large pieces of tissue (and cells) used for cytopathological and histopathological evaluation. Small incision surgery allowed for rapid rehabilitation and no significant complications.

متن کاملSurgical Management of Pseudophakic Malignant Glaucoma via Anterior Segment-Peripheral Iridectomy Capsulo-Hyaloidectomy and Anterior Vitrectomy
Purpose. To describe our surgical technique in the management of pseudophakic malignant glaucoma refractory to conventional treatment. Methods. Two pseudophakic eyes with malignant glaucoma underwent peripheral iridectomy, lens capsulectomy, hyaloidectomy, and anterior vitrectomy through a clear corneal incision by using a vitreous cutter. Results. Prompt resolution of malignant glaucoma was ac...
متن کاملPhakic iris-claw IOL implantation, with Bursa technique, through a self-sealing scleral tunnel and without iridotomy or iridectomy.
PURPOSE To present a novel technique for the implantation of phakic iris-claw intraocular lenses (IOL) in highly myopic cases. METHODS Twelve cases, under the age of 40, with high myopia were included in this retrospective study. The mean follow-up span was 14.4+/-5.8 months. Phakic iris-claw IOL implantation was performed, through a 5.5 or 6.5 mm self sealing scleral tunnel with Bursa techni...
متن کاملAqueous misdirection syndrome: an interesting case presentation
OBJECTIVE To report a case of an aqueous misdirection-like presentation in a pseudophakic patient. DESIGN Retrospective case review. PARTICIPANT An 84-year-old pseudophakic gentleman presented with bilateral blurred vision 8 years after cataract surgery. A refractive shift with shallow anterior chambers and elevated intraocular pressures were noted. No corneal edema was noted. Although aque...
متن کاملPigment vacuum iridectomy for phakic refractive lens implantation.
I present a technique designed to ensure an atraumatic patent basal iridectomy for phakic refractive lens implantation. The technique divides the iridectomy procedure into 2 steps. First, the stromal layer is removed by surgical excision. Then, the pigment layer is removed by gentle vacuum aspiration with a 25 gauge cannula. Atraumatic, small, basal peripheral iridectomies that are functional a...
